Check back soon to see more about the gear I’m currently diving!
Shearwater Perdix – My Open Circuit Dive Computer
Shearwater computers are the gold standard for technical dive computers. I don’t do any dive without a computer, most of the time I have two on me.
Shearwater Nerd 2 – Stand Alone for OC fossil hunting and DiveCAN for my CCR HUD.
The NERD puts the information I need right in my face so I can easily see it throughout the dive. I use it for my compass and gas pressure reading for my open circuit fossil diving and to read my PPO2 on my rebreather.
Oceanic Shadow – My current dive mask of choice
Frameless and fits well. Masks fit everyone different. Please go into multiple dive shops and try on every mask you can get your hands on and get the one that fits you best.
Oceanic Shadow Mini – My backup mask.
It fits my face, its a little smaller so mentally I think its taking up less room in my pocket (even though the difference in space is negligible – I don’t judge you for the way you do things leave me alone lol). It looks pretty much the same as the other one but I made the picture smaller to justify the space in my pocket thing.
Dive Rite XT Fins – Wet and drysuit fins (2 different sizes)
I like these because they are light and long, allowing maximum propulsion for both a frog and flutter kick. I’ve been trying out other fins lately and none of them feel natural to me, but I’d love to find something shorter to travel with. Will update if I find the right one! (Note: There is a whole story behind Dive Rite adding an “Anarchy Blue” fin for a while because Jared was both awesome and sick of hearing people from Anarchy Scuba Spot asking for blue fins lol.)
Trident Wreck Diver’s Canvas Bag – My fossil hunting bag for rivers and offshore diving.
I started using this bag for fossil diving in the river as it doesn’t snag on the bottom when you’re moving around. Then I moved to using this in the ocean with I dive “Meg Ledge” for the same reason. I use this bag and when I fill it, I dump my fossils into a larger heavy mesh bag so any sand can trickle out. Buy 3 bolt snaps – One to hold the bag open and two to attach to your chest d-rings. You’re welcome fossil divers. (Note – This is overkill and unnecessary for Venice unless you’re just bringing up every piece of bone you find – which is absolutely valid btw. You do you.)
